Gallery has complete stories for "Battle of Midway" and "Out the Gate" from the Dell comic. This October-December 1963 issue is complete except for the cover and "High Ground," a one-page, black-and-white story on the back of the cover. Sam Glanzman pencilled, inked, and lettered the entire issue except the cover, according to GCD. He signed the story as SJG, which he used on most of his work. Sam drew all of the interiors during Combat's 40-issue run (1961-73), which ran, with a few exceptions, every two months and later quarterly. He also was drawing other Dell and Charlton books, mostly war and some jungle, during his run on Combat. He didn't start working for DC until the latter part of the run, with his first published story in Our Army at War #218, April 1970. The story also was the start of his semi-autobiographical USS Stevens series, for which he is best known, describing life aboard a destroyer in the Pacific during World War II.
