Description

Dave Cockrum returned to the Legion once again in 1989 for this Phantom Girl origin story from Secret Origins #42. I know that Tinya was one of his favorite Legion characters, so it's great that he got to illustrate this. This particular page features Ultra Boy joining the Legion (which originally took place in Adventure Comics #316). The inking is credited to Jim Sanders III and Larry Mahlstedt (both great inkers), but I'm not sure which of them inked this specific page.

There's a funny Easter Egg in panel 5 (which I assume Dave added), where there's a sign in the background that says "Bring Back Devil Fish!". The word "Fish" is really only visible on the original art, so most readers probably didn't get the reference. Devil-Fish was an amphibious character that Dave created and introduced in Legion #202.

The third and sixth panels are stats, but the original art is underneath. Per the notes in blue, the art was statted and moved to make room for text. There's a rough sketch on the back that I believe is Colossal Boy.

I've actually owned this page since 1998, but I'm finally posting it to CAF now.

I remember Devil Fish. That was the first Superboy/LSH issue I bought off the stands!
