DescriptionHere is a three panel early TOD page by the Dean. Great, dynamic images of Dracula vs. some biblical shit. Exciting panel design and layout brought to life by the fluid action and energy I associate with Colan's work. For those of you who care about first appearances, this is the first (and last) appearance of Josiah Dawn! It is also from the FOURTH Blade issue but he is not on this page! So a whole bunch of nothing from that point of view! Interesting thing about this page, it is on a single sheet of comic art board that was glued to another piece of art board of exactly the same size and that board has the comic code approval stamp on the back. Not sure how this ended up on two boards as 100% original art and all of it on the front board. The page is numbered 31 although it is the 18th of 19 pages from that book. Social/Sharing |

Reinforced horror! Those jagged gutters make great angles against the crosses within each panel!

I'm of the opinion that Colan and Palmer's artistic peak on the title was around issues 40s onwards. However this example is particularly nice with all the Christian symbolism.

As far as Tomb of Dracula pages go, this is certainly a strong example! The art and content are brilliant, but everyone knows this is desirable primarily due to it being the very 1st appearance of Josiah Dawn, one of the most classic and revered comic book characters of all time!

This is fantastic! The action is detailed and up close and really shows that Colan was a master. Love the whole tone and feeling that this page conveys.

Colan's just one of the best! Pure illustration, storytelling, the layout... prime example that's got it all, as they say! Congrats, Jeff!
