Description

Steve Rude Detective Comics #1000 Variant Cover Element Sketch Preliminary Original Art (DC, 2018). In honor of the one-thousandth issue of Detective Comics, various artists contributed a host of variant covers for this momentous release. Among these was a series of covers dedicated to "Batman Through the Decades." Steve Rude created the "1930s Variant Cover," and a preliminary piece for that creative cover is offered here, showcasing the figural work behind the crouching stance Batman adopts in the final version. Rendered in ink and graphite on tracing paper with an image area of 6.5" x 10.25". Minor smudging/handling wear. Signed and dated; in Excellent condition.

Maybe only a handful of artists could have pulled off the 1930's Batman look since most artists today would have insisted on putting their own spin on it rather than going to the character's roots.  This layout shows off the figure and pose that is believable from reading the old reprints.
