Description"A Piece of the Pie” from Secret Origins #36 (Jan. 1989) tells the story of how Thomas Kalmaku met Hal Jordan, and how he rose from being a poor boy to having a "piece of the pie" of success. Last year I obtained four of the six original pages (additional images) from a fellow collector who was unsuccessful finding pages 4 and 5.Thirty-six years later, Joe Staton redrew pages 4 and 5 for me – pencils, inks, and lettering. A fantastic storyteller, Joe did a magnificent job of mirroring the pages he drew so long ago, while still channeling a bit of Gil Kane in these redrawn flashback page. * Hal Jordan gave Kalmaku the nickname "Pieface" in Green Lantern #2 (Oct. 1960) because the only other Eskimo he knew was Eskimo Pie. Tom held the nickname until issue 122 (Nov. 1979), when the character asked to be called Thomas Kalmaku, a decision driven by editorial recognition that “Pieface” was a derogatory term. On page 3 of this story, writer Gerald Jones acknowledges the derogatory term by having Kalmaku say “Hal hadn’t had much political sensitivity drummed into him yet.” As an aside, the Eskimo Pie ice cream bar was renamed Edy's Pie in 2021. Well we're Staton on up,
To the eight nine.
To a deluxe replacement in the line.
Staton on up
Pages four / five.
We finally got a piece with the Pie.

Your mastery of creative prose is matched only by your sharp wit and Harrison Ford-like steely good looks.

This is a fun and very different sort of commission. But now you have to hope the originals don't ever appear, otherwise you'll not only have to spend even more money on them, but you'll also not feel the necessity to keep the recreations and you'll then more than likely have to watch as you take a loss on them when you auction them off. But, if that doesn't bother you, then I suppose you'd still be very thrilled to see the originals turn up and have a shot at them!

Why would I sell these? Then again, if the mass deportations in Chicago cause inflation to skyrocket and there are riots in the streets, I may need to trade the art for 🍞 😳.

As I said, if you were to acquire the originals, then there would be little reason or need to keep the recreations. It actually happened to me. I commissioned a cover recreation because I figured I'd probably never see or have the opportunity to acquire the original. But I DID eventually acquire the original and the moment I did, the recreation no longer meant anything to me because it's just a copy of the original and I then had the original.
1500 criminals just received their pardons, so those deportations may surely come sooner than anyone imagines. I hope you love bread!

Joe did these for me. So while I would like the originals if they became available, these hold a personal values to me.
But just like your country club buddies Zuck and Musxk, everything with you billionaires is always about money, money, money!!

Alright, fair enough. We'll see how you feel if and when you ever acquire the original pages and talk about it at that time. Oh, and you should hit the like button on every comment, even the ones you respond to. Good internet etiquette, dontcha know!
I thought those guys were YOUR buddies. Did you see Musk proudly do a "zieg heil" today?

so the real lesson here is you can't choose your nickname and only political correctness can later walk it back, got it.
that said, nice way to complete the art set/project, quick turnaround work to own the 4 originals and get recreations done of the other 2 - that is some most efficient OA collecting if I've ever seen it. congrats!
