Description

Hell-Rider was the star of a short-lived black and white comics magazine by the same name published in 1971. It lasted 2 issues, and the character -- to my knowledge -- hasn't appeared in a publication since. Yet he appears in this gallery in multiple pieces commissioned by me. WHY?! Even I'm not sure.

I've always had a curiosity about lesser-known, obsure characters. The co-creator of Hell-Rider, Gary Friedrich, also co-creator another motorcyle riding superhero: Ghost Rider! And although GR debuted a year after HR was canceled, he went on the great fame and is now an iconic character. It's fair to say that hardly anyone knows who Hell-Rider is. While GR has gone on to appear in thousands of comics and been drawn by hundreds of artists, HR's 2 published adventures were drawn by the late, great Ross Andru and Mike Esposito. For the most part, the only other artists that have drawn the character are the ones I've commissioned -- and that brings me to this piece.

I've always felt that one of the great, underrated artists that came from the Bronze Age is Trevor Von Eeden. Possibly best known as the co-creator of Black Lightning, he's had impressive runs on such titles as GREEN ARROW, BATMAN: LEGENDS OF THE DARK KNIGHT, POWER MAN AND IRON FIST, THRILLER, BLACK CANARY and many others. So when I was considering artists to reimagine and redraw pages from this character's comic, Trevor was one of the first talents that came immediately to mind. And wow, did he go all out on this page!

You can see both the original page by Andru and Trevor's reimagined version. My great thanks to him for an amazing job. And this is only one of three pages he's done for me, including a DPS which I'll be posting here as well. Do yourself a favor and hit up Trevor for a commission today.

That's a killer layout! You get the ghost riding up top and the daredevil acrobatic sequence at the end!
