Description"That's MISTER Freeze to you!"As a kid, watching the "Batman: The Animated Series" episode "Heart of Ice" was an experience I hadn't felt before...I questioned Batman's stance against an enemy. Mr. Freeze commits actions of terror but for a very understandable purpose... to save his beloved wife who inarguably is (or was) not only his best friend but his only connection to the concept of humanity. While Freeze's madness makes for another notch in Batsy's wicked roster of foes, breaking the surface to his heart (which some would say is buried deep beneath the snow) makes for a whole new type of viewing the big picture. Fast forward to the once upon a maligned but now well-aged, Batman and Robin. While most fans detested the flick's choices, I've always adored it for Batman's appeal to Freeze's humanity to save Alfred's life upon his succumbing to an early stage of Nora Fries' illness, McGregor Syndrome - stage one. Finally we have the insanely heart breaking Batman Beyond episode "Meltdown" featuring Freeze's return and downfall regarding Batman as the only one who cared about him. Speaking of big pictures... Doug Mahnke amasses a ridiculous take on Mr Freeze's lab hoarded with his signature suit, cryogenics, Freeze himself and most importantly, a cornucopia of tests subjects! I know action pages with Freeze are the popular choice but there's something tragic, romantic or both about a detailed immersion of the mad scientist using madness for his one true love! Take that Valentine's day! "I failed you. I wish there were another way for me to say it. I cannot. I can only beg your forgiveness and pray you hear me somehow...someplace. Someplace where a warm hand waits for mine. " Social/Sharing |

So much of the incredible detailing here is lost in the published coloring. Thank goodness for the original art.

Mad scientist laboratory worthy of the DPS size. Mahnke and Mendoza would find inspiration from classic Wrightson Frankenstein to keep plugging away at this piece.

So morbid and so intricate. You would never know the beauty of all this work from the published piece.
