DescriptionASM #61 - The 8 Deaths of Spider-Man - Part 1: Inevitable AttractionThis is the best story that's appeared in Amazing Spider-Man in a couple of years and it falls under the 'One World Under Doom' umbrella. Doctor Doom is the new Sorcerer Supreme and he used his power to take over the world. In this issue, he conscripts Spidey to handle an interdimensional threat as Doom has more important things to attend to. Granting a fraction of the Sorcerer Supreme's power to Spidey, he gets a new costume and a whole new understanding of magic that allows him to engage in mystical combat. This is the "spaghettification" page. Spider-Man's foe has gravitational powers that stem from a black hole in his chest. At one point Spidey ends up getting sucked into the black hole and experiencing spaghettification. This is apparently what it looks like. When reading this issue, I stopped and stared at this page for a bit; it is a stunner! McGuinness really makes the process of being sucked into a black hole look unpleasant. The perspective here is great as are the thin strips that seem to be cut out of Spider-Man's flesh, revealing what lies beneath, as his feet disappear into the singularity. This page is a bit grisly but visually, it's so cool! And we get to see Spidey in his new magically powered costume! And in the inset panel in the bottom right hand corner we see the Marvel U's new Death, Phil Coulson, checking in on his latest client. Pencils and inks on 11x17 Marvel bristol board. This page definitely stopped me as well when I was reading the issue. My first thought was McGuinness has been reading some Cankor comics. I love the perspective and how trippy this page is.

I've not read Cankor, but now I'm thinking maybe I should.
