DescriptionRIP Jim Silke, the multi-talented artist / art director/ writer who passed away last week at age 93.One of my favorite facts from Silke’s career is that he essentially started his "new" career as a comic book artist / writer in his early 60s. Repeat: He started in his early 60s. I acquired this wonderful painted cover late last year, part of a series he created for Vertigo’s American Century title. A retro classic. As anyone who visited me at the former Liberty Station IDW Publishing offices can attest, I definitely have a thing for old-school newsstands. (FYI, that's Action Comics #183 from 1953, bottom right.) https://greggoldsteincomicartgallery.com/jim-silke-a-great-century/ Social/Sharing |

Wonderful tribute post. Had no idea he started his career that late in life.

RIP Jim Silke. Truly worthy of tribute in these comic art galleries. The newsstand with his inspirations for his pin up ladies is fabulous.

This cover encapsulates Silke's signature retro style, merging classic comic book and vintage illustration aesthetics with his own distinct flair. A wonderful piece that honors the past while showcasing Silke’s late-career mastery. The Action Comics #183 reference in the corner adds a nice touch of comic history!

Yeah, this one looks pretty good. The newsstand lady reminds me of Adrienne Barbeau.

The background just enhances the two characters. Beautifully executed, this reminds me of Rockwell. Congrats!
