You know, as incredible and hard to believe as the art in thisstrip has been up until now, Ihave to call ballsand strikes as I see them. I'd been wondering when I'd see an example which showed Newton's work look a bit more on the amateurish side, given that that's what he was in 1968, and this example is one that has a far less polished look to it than the other ones. Still, it's interesting to see that he made the decision to essentially use thischapter as a splash page to enhance the action and drama, rather than move the story along, and that's a pretty ballsy move with a strip done in this format, so big props to Don!

Killer splash! Newton took up an entire page of the RBCC to bring impact right off the bat! Great space age effects with screen tones and scratches over the inks for the explosives. The flaming onomatopoeia also shows the damage to the poor guy being disintegrated by the heat.
