Description

Last weekend at Lexington Comic & Toy Show, I was finally able to meet one of my favorite artists from the 1980's, Sandy Plunkett! In the short time Sandy was in the comics industry, he produced a relatively small amount of published comic book work. But he more than made up for it with the lush, illustrative quality of his work. Here is an unfinished reimagining of the cover to Marvel Fanfare # 6. The published cover was done by P. Craig Russell. This is an incomplete piece where we see what it may have looked like if Sandy had done the cover. The finished reimagined cover was done as a commission for a collector.

Now this is a gem! Sandy Plunkett’s work always had that rich, illustrative depth, and even unfinished, this piece carries that magic. It's fun to think what could’ve been if he had done the actual Marvel Fanfare #6 cover.

Marvel Fanfare and certain titles where he could do a spot fantasy illustration/pin up were more his speed. Very cool when comparing this to the Russell cover when given the same prompt.

Plunkett's style was so unique and it really shines through in this piece. Even as a comp, this piece is so dynamic. Congrats on an outstanding drawing.

Plunkett did an incredible job on illustrating and Spider-Man. The pencils are so exquisite. You are one lucky collector getting to own two spectacular Plunkett pieces. Congrats!
