DescriptionPublished 1984 by First comics.Warp, was a science-fiction play created at Chicago, Illinois' Organic Theatre Company in 1971 by co-authors Stuart Gordon and Lenny Kleinfeld, the latter under the pseudonym Bury St. Edmund. The Play had a short run on Broadway before moving back to Chicago. It told the story of David Carson who learns that he is Lord Cumulus, "avenger of the universe" and is transported to the mystical realm Fen-Ra, to battle for the destiny of the universe against antagonist Prince Chaos. He is aided by the leather-clad Amazon warrior Sargon. The art for the Warp playbill and Broadway poster appears to have been done by Neal Adams. The play was adapted to comic book series by Peter Gillis and pencils for the first nine issues were by Frank Brunner, who was succeeded by Jerry Bingham. This cover features Sargon, Mistress of War, and presumably showing her commanding a squadron of space ships to attack. Social/Sharing |

I had no idea about the history of Warp. That's cool!! I just knew it was a great comic by some of my favorite creators. Jerry Bingham being one of them!

Oh, where have you been, my Stu Gordon?
And where have you been, my darling Carson?
I've stumbled on the lines of twelve Jerry Binghams
I've walked and I've crawled for sick crooked live plays
I've stepped in the battle with Sargon in comics
I've been out in front of a Bury St. Edmund
I've seen Gustovich style ink the mouth of a graveyard
And it's a Warp, it's a Warp, it's a Warp, and it's a Warp
Prince's hard reign's a-gonna fall

Nice! I was a real fan of both Bingham (Marvel Premiere featuring Black Panther) and Gustovich (Justice Machine) back in the 80's. They made a nice combo!

I love Warp! It was the first independent comic I collected. Great Sargon cover by Jerry Bingham.

thanks for sharing all the background history info on Warp, wasn't that familiar (although think have come across Brunner pages here and there that looked cool). Really nice Bingham art!
