DescriptionWomen are often referred to as "the fairer sex." But there are exceptions to every rule and this page spotlights one within that realm, who also celebrates a very significant milestone today, as well. One of the great things about Marvel's cosmic characters, has always been the grounded approach they used to take to them. Despite being alien in origins, they always came across as very human in their actions and reactions. That's exactly what we get in this scene from Warlock and the Infinity Watch, as Gamora has a very natural (if unfeminine) reaction to Maxam's sly remarks about her relationship with Adam Warlock. The old adage about not "trifling with a woman scorned" is beautifully displayed here. Of course, when you have the billing of "the deadliest woman in the whole galaxy," you could hardly expect any other outcome. Though, it seems Maxam isn't exactly concerned about that, does it? Before he was dazzling people in the webbed world of Spider-Man and Spider-Girl, artist Pat Olliffe cut his teeth on books like this one. You can see he knows how to make an impactful image, while still making sure to get in those good fundamentals of classic comic storytelling. I love that he makes sure we see plenty of action, but end the page with a massive shot of Maxam, letting you know that the real action has only just begun. This is what you look for in good superhero fiction and is something you don't see so much of in the current times. But back then, this was the standard and we certainly loved it! I noted at the start that I'm posting this up today, as it marks a very significant milestone for our green-skinned friend on it. For it was on this day, 50 years ago, that Gamora made her very first appearance in Marvel Comics (Strange Tales #180, for those who'd like to look it up and which I've attached the page she first appeared as an additional image). So, what better to celebrate that anniversary, than with a sweet piece of comic art, showing just why she has kept the title of "the deadliest woman in the whole galaxy" for that length of time. I don't think she herself could think of a more fitting tribute! Social/Sharing |

The fight promised on the cover! Olliffe and Williams make the layout a highlight of this page with Maxam larger than life!
