DescriptionFinding original art for the Emperor's New Groove is very difficult as the movie was not made with hand painted cels, it had moved to digital by this time.Early development of the movie, initially called Kingdom of the Sun, was leaning towards a much darker and more serious movie. If you've seen the movie, you know that changed significantly, with a very comedy leaning story. This early character design painting is possibly the villain (who would eventually become Yzma) or possibly even main character designs? This piece is also a unique shape, being a long and thin shape which accentuates the mood of the painting! Social/Sharing |

Great movie and one of my sister's favorites. So funny! This is a stunning piece of art. Actually looks like a fine art painting more than anything. Thanks for the informative description. Hard to imagine this as a darker film. Not sure it would have worked as well.

The big change to comedy certainly ended up being the right call as it's an excellent film. I don't think it would be near the cult classic movie for millenials without it being that David Spade hilarity

A villain like pose using snake like curves and a cobra like crown at the top. It also as a grungy industrial look with the crown having gear like edge, the clothing pattern of circuitry, and the pipe like elements in the setting.

Terrific! Hadn't seen this before. Watkiss was an amazing designer. Love the flow of the arms and sway of the figure, along with the great lighting, color, patterns, and other elements
