DescriptionComicLink Comments:Ty Templeton's style was ideal for the comic book stories set within the world of Batman: The Animated Series. Templeton did a perfect job of depicting the Batman and his supporting cast using Bruce Timm's classic designs. On this 1997 cover Templeton depicts a rarely seen image--the Joker looking dejected. Note: This art is executed on standard 11" x 17" art board. The board is affixed on the reverse to a piece of thin adhesive plastic that measures approximately 12.5" x 18.5". It does not appear that the art board can be removed from this plastic with the possible exception of professional removal. Fortunately the face of the art is unaffected and presents very well, Tape stains are present in the left, right, and lower margins, but these do not affect the image area of the art. About the Joker The Joker first appeared in 1940's Batman #1 and he's been Batman's main enemy ever since and one of the very top villains in all of comic books. In addition to appearing in dozens of Batman stories, the Joker has had his own solo series and one-shots. He's been portrayed in virtually every adaptation of Batman ever done--movies, live TV shows, animated cartoons, video games and more. Heath Ledger became the first actor to win an Academy Award for playing a comic book character when he won Best Supporting Actor (posthumously) for his role as the Joker in The Dark Knight and Joaquin Phoenix won the Academy Award for best lead actor for the 2019 film, Joker. No other comic character role has ever won an Oscar, but the Joker has done it twice! The Joker has also been portrayed by two other Academy Award winners, Jack Nicholson and Jared Leto. In 2019 Joker earned over a billion dollars at the global box office and is by far the highest grossing R-rated film ever. It was also nominated for 11 Academy Awards, the most of any film last year! Needless to say, the Joker has a very bright future in Hollywood and, of course, in the comics as well. About the Artist Award-winning artist Ty Templeton first became known as a comic book artist in 1985 with his creation, Stig's Inferno for Vortex Comics. He's best known for his work on various comic book adaptations of Batman: The Animated Series as well as his recent work on the adaptation of the Adam West Batman TV series, known as Batman '66. Great Joker cover! Back then, it might not have been given a fair shake since people only wanted Batman on the cover of this title. But Joker and Harley have become stars in their own right these days and villain centric stories are very popular.
