Description

Invincible Iron Man (Vol. 5) #15 Pg. 12
(Legacy Numbering: Iron Man #665)
Pencils by Creees Lee
Written by Gerry Duggan

Tony Stark/Iron Man in his new Mysterium Armor (a hyper-conductive "miracle metal" that is more durable than adamantium and impervious to magic) gets the better of a Sentinel Zero (A model of Sentinel made from adamantium-laced skeletons) as it lunges its claws at him, shocking Tony when it makes contact as its entire arm ruptures on impact. Tony grabs the machine's head and crumples it effortlessly. Emma Frost (White Queen) is impressed, responding "Astonishing".

Really nice detailed pencil work by Creees Lee on this page! The credits list this issue as inked by Walden Wong, not sure if that was digitally or blue line on another page exists elsewhere. This was a cool one off issue to read, but I haven't been following the overall story from the beginning, as this issue came out in 2024. I do generally enjoy Gerry Duggan's writing though.

I picked this page up to support a good cause for Officer Roscoe's family on the EXP auction a little while back, so thank you to Creees for donating it (via 24/7 Comics & Carl Choi, thanks to them also), to Tom McDonald & Jeff Wedding for organizing, and to Nicky B for the platform to raise the money for the family.

It's interesting that at first glance, it reminded me of one of the Mike Grell pencilled pages he did for Iron Man years ago. Very nicely done, especially the intricate details in the third panel, plus you get a great Iron Man image as well.

It was metal miracle
It was sentinel zero
Kavi by myself I rip and break
An armor about you

It's a dark and dreary knight
Seems like Duggan's goin’ to write
Won't you tell Creees, Tony
How can I go on here without you?

Yes, Waldon’s inking blue
And I don't know what to do, oh-oh
Ring, ring, why don't you give Queen a call?
Ring, ring, the happiest Stark of them all

Ring, ring, I stare at the Frost on the wall
And I sit all alone invincibly
Won't you please understand the Creees I need?
So, ring, ring, why don't you give Creees a call?
So, ring, ring, why don't you give Creeez a call?

Very impressive page!  When I opened up the image, my eyes first went to the second and third panels, and I thought the character was using his own hands to crush his own head.  I immediately thought, "Man, I can empathize -- I've had days where I wanted to do that too."  Haha!  But then I looked above and saw that it was Iron Man who was doing the crushing.  Really nice panel of Emma Frist there at the bottom too.  Astonishing indeed.

I'll never read an issue of Iron Man again but, artistically, the book looks like it's in good hands. I used to think it was special when Tony built a stealth armor (issue 152) or an armor for low Earth orbit flights but a magic-impervious armor? That's something.
