Description"Medal of Honor: Assault on the Hermit Kingdom" by unknown writer. The USS General Sherman is destroyed and the crew killed in 1866 in Korea. The President dispatches the Asiatic Squadron to find out what happened to the ship following unsuccessful search expeditions. In 1871, the Asiatic Squadron anchors off the strongest Korean fortress. Rear Admiral John Rogers sends a dingy under a flag of truce to discuss terms for continuing the search. Ship's carpenter Cyrus Hayden is envious of the people going ashore under the flag of truce, having spent five unexciting years in the Navy doing carpentry. The fort fires on the dingy, destroying it and killing the sailors. Note: See Wikipedia entries about the USS General Sherman and subsequent expedition for a more accurate, fullsome account: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_Sherman_incident https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_expedition_to_Korea Social/Sharing |

Hayden got what he wished for and maybe now wished he didn't.

Maurer's art is very well done and quite realistic. I like the attention to detail, particularly the uniforms and room interior. The backgrounds are very well done, too.

Thanks, Ruben. I think his art here is superior to some of his other Medal of Honor stories.

Very nicely illustrated page! In panels 1, 3, and 5 especially the sense of depth/space between the detailed character work in the foreground and the detailed backgrounds are really nice. Great addition, Peter!

Cyrus Hayden was the carpenter who wanted more
He watched the sailors heading for the shore
The sailors came bearing a flag of truce
but then the cannons let loose
And in a blink of the eye he knew what Sometimes you will find is that
You really don’t know what life has in store
So be careful what you wish for
