"Medal of Honor: Assault on the Hermit Kingdom" probably by Norman Maurer. Cover date October 1971.

Story begins with USS General Sherman, on a trade mission in Korea, running aground in 1866.

Gray tone gouache portrait of Medal of Honor winner Cyril Hayden is in the lower left.

Thank you, Tom! Excellent, succinct points about Maurer. I forgot to include his interesting background in the description. Joe Kubert and he were classmates at Manhattan's High School of Music and Art and close, lifelong friends.

Even when the sentiment towards war turned in the 70's, Maurer's presents a scene that feels authentic and inspires appreciation of those who served and earned the highest honor in the land.

A very nice splash and the Cyrus Hayden head shot is outstanding! What a shame the printing couldn't properly reproduce it back then.

Great page. Even the stat logo. Too bad the printing for the portrait didn't match Maurer's artistry.
