Description

"Medal of Honor: Assault on the Hermit Kingdom" by unknown writer.

Koreans in the fortress fire on the landing troops, throwing everything at them including rocks and flaming oil.

Cyrus's friend holding the flag urges him not to stop but is shot dead.

Cyrus picks up the flag and storms the citadel. He plants it on top of the citadel, holding the position despite desperate odds.

Congress awarded him the Medal of Honor for his heroism that day.

The US and Korea later signed a trade treaty and established friendly relations.

Castle seige action!  They glossed over a lot of history in order to tie things up neatly with that last sentence that comes across as "Somehow Palpatine returned" as if Korea's civil war was all about getting a trade treaty done.

I love the composition of each panel, with Maurer laying each one out very cleanly and clearly. It's so easy on the eyes, as even when there are multiple character in a single panel, you can make out what's happening immediately, with no need to focus your eyes. Really great storytelling!

Atop the castle a humble carpenter stood

A man who worked with tools in a shop

A man who could build anything out of wood

And yet he took the flag to the top

Is not a carpenter made of wood?

Is not a sailor made of water?

Is the best you've done, always the best you could? (the best you could)

Wiil not his courage live on long after?

Wow! Courtesy of the county's resident poet! Thanks for introducing me to the song and singer.
