DescriptionIt's incredible how much meaning and joy can be associated with a singular piece. My favourite artist, Barry Kitson, has a large and very active Facebook group where he'll take a list of suggestions every month. He'll draw or paint whatever he likes from the list, and then whoever made the suggestion gets first dibs on purchasing the piece. For eleven months, I made my two suggestions - Andromeda and Vril Dox II - and kept my fingers crossed. I still remember opening Facebook one day to this piece staring me in the face, and just sitting in disbelief that I had gotten so lucky... and then I read Barry's description of the piece, which you can find in the additional images. Not only had Barry chosen my suggestion, but he was planning to use it as the start of project he'd wanted to do for a long time: an alphabet of Legion characters!!!Well, sure enough, Barry started taking suggestions on who should feature in the "B" piece (hmm, I wonder?), with the plan that each piece would be available to whoever claimed them first in the Facebook group. I should mention that even though I adore Barry's art, a lot of it was scooped up well before I ever started collecting. To not only have the chance to purchase Legion art from him as he made it, but to contribute in some tiny way - suggesting new characters for each letter - was beyond a dream come true. So, this is the first of an art series that captivated me for four months, waking up each day beyond excited to see if a new alphabet piece would be posted, and who it would feature. As more of these surely start popping up on CAF, you'll see that Barry got more and more inventive as time went on, and more and more creative with how he incorporated the letters into each piece. With all that introduction, let me just say that I love this piece. I'm not sure if Barry had ever drawn Andromeda before, but he of course nailed all the staples: big hair, prominent physique, and lots and lots of stars. I love how he did the starfield effect on her costume - it's the first time I've ever seen it done with a paint spatter instead of a whiteout pen! It makes the costume look less like printed fabric and much more like some fun futuristic technology that somehow integrates an actual spacescape into her costume. I think the green background is gorgeous too, with the watercolours making it look very soft and velvety. And I love the choice of font Barry went with for the "A". Stay tuned for more of these; they only get more and more incredible! Social/Sharing |

A for Andromeda, nice job! (to you and to Barry lol). It's a great Kitson piece but also a great story since you personally suggested it and were able to add it to your collection as a kick-off to a series of artworks. To have that type of experience with your favorite artist is as good as any in this hobby, congrats!

I couldn't have said it better myself, Kavi. I still can't believe my suggestion got to be the starting point for a whole series of art. And thank you so much!
