Description9 x 12 cover to the original graphic novel Bumperhead by Gilbert Hernandez, published by Drawn and Quarterly in 2014.The first (but not last) Gilbert Hernandez piece of original art I'm adding to my collection. I've always appreciated how prolific and wide-ranging Gilbert is as a storyteller. In the early 2010s, he produced two graphic novels, Marble Season and Bumperhead, that explore different stages of growing up. Bumperhead delves into adolescence and early adulthood as it traces the life of its protagonist Bobby Numbly from his elementary school days to middle age. It's more melancholic than Marble Season and explores alienation and drug use within the 1970s glam and punk rock scenes of Oxnard, California, where Gilbert and his brother, Jaime, grew up. congrats on your first (but not last!) Gilbert piece, and a published cover no less! sounds like an interesting time period and location for a book drawn from the Hernandez brothers adolescence.

Great choice on pickng this up Mark. I thought about it myself. Bumperhead is an excellent graphic novel and I've always liked the cover. I especially like the way Gilbert placed the main character at the forefront.

Congrats on getting your first original by Gilbert, Mark. Maybe now he'll finally start feeling better about himself always playing second fiddle to his brother Jaime in the eyes of art collectors!

Betto is such an outstanding artist. In hindsight, I wish my L&R collection had been better balanced between the two brothers. Congratulation !

I like the stories from Gilbert's perspective since he delves into the past traditions more and would enrich how we see the Jaime stories.

Just a great Beto cover. Very evocative of an interesting but sometimes sad childhood.

Your first Gilbert OA! My favorite of the H Bros. Love the expressions and humanity in each of the faces in this cover, and wonderfully spotted blacks in this deceptively simple design
