Description"Out the Gate" by Paul S. Newman. October-December 1963.This is the book's last page besides advertising. In Metz, the German captain insists that Nesco, impersonating a Romanian officer, stay at the German officers club. He goes to bed content that he'll be able to slip out before dawn and reach the American lines. However, the German captain knocks on his door with a surprise, a fellow Romanian officer(!). He slips out the window and in the morning runs into an American reconnaissance patrol, which is convinced he's a German spy. He finally convinces his interrogators of his identity after four hours of grilling. Social/Sharing |

That was the heart stopping moment I was expecting! But, I was all set for another 10+ page story! This ending was incredibly sudden..... Fun either way!

That was a quick escape! It made it seem easy and that every POW should start learning Rumanian.
