DescriptionThis was a win from the most recent Heritage Signature Auction! While everyone else was focused on $300k Jock covers and $100k Quesada covers, I was scouring the items that cost less than a new car. There were a pair of painted covers by Eric Powell in the auction, both of which had been done for recent books penned by Rick Remender; the other was for an issue of 'Napalm Lullaby'. They were both really great, but I ended up deciding to go after this one, which ended up being the slightly cheaper of the two. Go me! This feels like a classic fantasy or sci-fi cover depicting the "hero" of the story, and I think that's what drew me to it. The fact that the protagonist of the story, Ernie Ray, isn't very heroic lends some irony to the piece, which I'm always into. I also really enjoy the colors. The warm colors up top go very well with the cooler colors at the bottom. Overall, just a really well done cover! 15 x 22 mixed media on Strathmore board. Social/Sharing |

Congrats on landing this, Newell! The drawing as well as the color scheme is really attractive At the size it measures, I know how much more impressive it looks in person. Nice Insta video unveiling, btw!

It feels like a classic barbarian king of the mountain composition used by many fantasy painters! Powell's bold brush fire background is awesome as it attracts us and their foes to them!

Mignola vibes and Powell's masterful paints give this irreverant comedy some serious gravitas!

Love the use of purple and orange here. Powell nails the detail, composition, and color here and the end result is a beautiful cover from an underrated Image series. Nice pick up!
