DescriptionAvengers #16 p9 Kirby/Ayers - Iron Man, Sub-Mariner, Quicksilver, Scarlet WitchThis page is from the historic changeover of the Avengers line up. Further, it features layouts by Kirby (instead of Heck) and finishes by Ayers, although some pages may have been fully penciled by Kirby. The Avengers invite the Sub-Mariner to join, but he rejects them. Action cuts to Wanda and Pietro considering how to redeem themselves by approaching the Avengers as applicants. I tried to increase the contrast to tease out the extensive margin notes which are quite faded. Social/Sharing |

Key issue and we get the beginning of the changeover to expand the base of heroes. With his appearance here, even Namor could have been an Avenger!

Oh man I loved this issue when i finally found a back issue of it after being teased by some of my first Avengers comics issues 150-151 and the dreaded doom deadline reprints of it. I had the splash...and a few other pages...for many years and miss it terribly! Great page Andy!

WOW! I really love this page! The change in the lineup and the next twenty or so issues are among my all-time favorite Avenger stories. Congratulations!

Such a fun, and improbable, story of recruiting Avengers members. The second panel really sums up early '60s Marvel. Kirby's margin notes are always interesting too.
