Description

Howdy gang! Hope all of you who went had a great time at Comic Con and had a safe trip home. More importantly, I hope your bank accounts survived the trip and you were able to come home with some special purchases that didn't clean you out. LOL! Looking forward to seeing all the goodies posted in the coming days. Now back to our program.

I thought I was pretty much done with Jester art, more or less. Especially since I completed my (unintentional) trifecta of getting a Marvel piece, a Disney piece, and a Star Wars piece. And being a lifelong Marvel, fan, I certainly wasn’t actively looking to add a DC piece to my Jester collection. But apparently I was wrong on both counts.

Let me preface by saying that I’m not usually a big fan of any Barbie doll version of Wonder Woman. Yes, she’s supposed to be this beautiful, statuesque, amazon. But I’ve always preferred depictions that play up the warrior aspect (think Brian Bolland or George Perez) over the Sports Illustrated swimsuit model version. Still, there was something about this piece that caught my eye. I love the quiet elegance in her pose and reflective gaze. There’s a gracefulness to the drawing. Especially with that longer neck, the soft shoulders, and those delicate strands of wind-tossed hair. This is probably not the Wonder Woman you would want to go into battle with. But if you’re taking photographs or painting a portrait, it’s exactly what you would want. I also love that there’s very little color and what IS there is beautifully muted to really enhance the mood and tone of the piece. I probably could have done without the super-size jugs. But hey, you gotta sell the art, right?

Anyway, my thanks to Tony for another great piece and pleasant transaction. New Jester pieces can be found on eBay on an almost weekly basis under the seller ID “moshpot”. To those who popped by for a quick look, I appreciate your time.

Adding an iconic DC character into the mix can never hurt!

A Cute WW by Jester to add to the set def doesn't hurt! I like how she's looking away from the viewer "off screen" - really showcases her eyes, nose, and lips well. It's not quite manga style but has an animated Jessica Rabbit style look. Like you I'm more partial to the Perez/Bolland style WW but also appreciate some modern versions (Adam Hughes, Cliff Chiang, Jenny Frison come to mind off the top of my head). nice piece!

Before people get the wrong idea, I think it might be important to differentiate between “style” and “version.”  For me, style relates more to the artist, and version relates more to the character.  This distinction matters because, unlike what may be implied from my description (singling out Bolland and Perez), I am actually a huge Adam Hughes fan.  I loved his iconic cover run on WW.  But while I may love all three artists’ STYLES, I probably prefer Brian’s and George’s VERSION of the character.  Again, this is all having to do with that warrior woman aspect.  Adam draws some of the most beautiful women I’ve ever seen.  And if you want a hottie in a Wonder Woman costume, I can’t think of anyone better to do that.  But if you want hard and tough (not necessarily masculine mind you), I think George and Brian were better at playing down the barbie doll and playing up the warrior.  Anyway, that’s all I was saying.   Appreciate the comment buddy.

Such a great style, adding DC to your court of Jesters was definitely a good call.

I see what you did there.  Bonus points for the clever wordplay.  Thanks for the comment my friend.

There is a lovely je ne sais quoi about her that is very captivating. Lovely depiction.

Thanks Robert.  I would say he is well worth at least looking into.  If there was one knock on him, I would say it was inconsistency.  Some pieces do come off as rushed, or just plain uninspired.  But when he gets it right, the art is delightful and fun (and it's hard to beat the price for what you get).

Very cute and well executed.  Had a great time at SDCC and the bank account is still in tact, but only barely. Ha!

Jester usually does vibrant colors.  This muted example works well!

Always love seeing pieces by Jester posted on CAF.  This one has a quiet beauty to it that I really like.  A lovely add!

Very nice.  I need to stop looking at your CAF since you turn me on to very talented artists that I was previously unaware of until I saw your post.  ;)  Thanks for sharing!

Ha!  What's wrong with that?  I love discovering new talent on CAF.  Especially when their art doesn't cost me an arm and a leg.  Anyway, you wouldn't even have to worry about that if you weren't buying Soey Milk pieces by the dozen.  LOL!  Just promise you won't start doing that with Jester.  Thanks for the comment Will.
