Description

Olivier Coipel's work on The Mighty Thor with both J. Michael Stracyznski and Matt Fraction has always stood out for me and I'm very happy to add a nice splash page from 2011 to my collection. Anytime you can get the Silver Surfer and Galactus on the same page, it is an added bonus. If you zoom in you can see that Olivier originally drew the Surfer much larger, but at some point in the page layout process, he erased it and and drew a smaller version which is better scaled to the perspective of the page. He apparently applies a lot of pressure when penciling becase all the graphite is erased, but the larger Surfer outline is permanently embedded into the page. A shout out to the talented Mark Morales for his artistic touches too, especially the star field!

Thi was a mighty reboot that brought Thor back in a big way! The Thor movie was in 2011 as wel making it moe important as Coipel made the scope of Thor's cosmic tales grander and more epic than ever!
