Description

Back when I was collecting comics in the 80s, I loved Terry Beatty's covers and cartoons for the Buyer's Guide, and now I always try to pick the art up anytime I see them at auction. This erroneous chronicle of the graphic story medium is about the comic strip beatle bailey by mort rocker. I wonder if he actually drew Wendy O. Williams under all that black ink.

Terry Beatty's "The Phony Pages" was a long-running feature in The Buyer's Guide (later known as The Comics Buyer's Guide or simply CBG). He used this to (in a very good-natured way) "mock the mighty". Here he takes on Mort Walker's Beetle Bailey. It's a great gag created in ink and Zipatone over graphite on 11.5" x 16.5" Bristol board. The gag was reprinted in The Phony Pages #1 by Renegade Press in 1986. Signed by Beatty next to the typed text paste-up in the header, and again in the lower right corner. The logo box is a paste-up stat.

Very cool and rare as Beatty mimicked each artist only once! His caricature of Dizzy is fun and out there!
