DescriptionPublished 2010.The Great Darkness Saga is considered the pinnacle of the Legion of Super-Heroes stories. Written by Paul Levitz and Keith Giffen with art by Keith Giffen, Larry Mahlstedt, Pat Broderick, Curt Swan, Romeo Tanghal, Howard Porter and Rodin Rodriguez, it spanned issues 287 to 294 and Annual 3 of the Legion of Super-Heroes series. The first collected edition was published in 1989 with the cover being a very similar image of the cover of Legion of Super-Heroes #294. For the Deluxe Edition a new cover was commissioned that homaged the cover of Legion of Super-Heroes #294. This cover shows Darkseid and Legion of Super-Heroes: Dawnstar, Supergirl, Blok, Mon-El, Brainiac 5, Phantom Girl, Wildfire, Element Lad, Dream Girl, Invisible Kid, Lightning Lass, Saturn Girl, Princess Projectra, Sun Boy, Ultra Boy and Cosmic Boy. This deluxe edition also included stories from Legion of Super-Heroes 284 to 286, 295 to 296 and Legion Annual 1. I acquired through a three way deal (thanks Shaun and Steven) and am extremely stoked to add it to my collection. I had to give up some things I did not think I would be parting with, but: 1. Great Darkness 2. Giffen 3. Supergirl! 4. Mon-El 5 Dawnstar 6. Did I mention Supergirl! Social/Sharing |

Excellent cover!!!! Huge congrats on this Miki. I'm the furthest thing from a Legion guy, but from your description alone it's obvious how key/important this run in the title was, and how much this addition means to you.

An epic moment in DC history, majestically captured by Griffen.
Miki - this truly blew me away how you managed to get this but whatever it took, it was worth it!

On this Legion of love Deluxe
I used to think us much too in Darkness
That was long before
I trade, drowning in the thought of you
Art to the names is an easy go
So much more than first Keith shown
Since you have to lose Al you have to give to learn the truth
Some things we learn come easy
Then there's the things that don't
We're bound to earn the homage
Love has no pride
Well, Al knows love ink line
And we see what we want
Keith finds out all too soon
Love has a Darkseid

I'm a big fan of flashback scenes, retold origins & important moments in characters' histories, as they not only give you that wave of nostalgia that makes us harken back to those original moments, but they are also a much more affordable way of having art from those special stories and moments. I know your love for the Legion knows no bounds and I know that The Great Darkness Saga is considered to be the high water mark in Legion lore, so this is the exact type of piece I've to see and I'm thrilled to see that you managed to land it and place it into your collection. It's great looking and, well, Supergirl!
