DescriptionIn the mid-90s, Topps decided to re-release the Mars Attacks! card series. Along with reprinting all of the original cards from the early 60s, they wanted to add something new to the mix and had a handful of artists come up with unique takes on the franchise. Of those new cards, my far and away favorite was this one from the talented duo of Fastner and Larson, which featured the Martians crashing a wet t-shirt contest. This is one of those pieces of OA I had spent years hoping to eventually find but had never seen a trace of, until when during the 2020 Covid lockdowns I reached out to F&L about a possible commission project (what eventually became the Devil's Playground piece in my commission gallery). While discussing the commission, I inquired about the original artwork they had done for Topps and while they no longer had it, they were able to put me on the trail of the owner, who to my surprise and delight was willing to sell it to me. Fastner and Larson are well known for both their wicked sense of humor and their ability to illustrate the female form and this piece is a perfect example of both. As usual with their work, each of them brought their strengths to the project, with Rick's knack for great compositions meeting up with Steve's unparalleled skills as a painter. Social/Sharing |

Love the update in the style of painting F&L has over the 60's and in the more modern wicked themes! Done in the same spirit of tongue and cheek humor to offend and shock!
