Description

Fascist art, for fascist times.

Guns - and the glorification of guns in popular media, even fantasy media - have always made me uncomfortable. So why did I buy this? For one thing, I'm a fan of Cameron Stewart's work, and his way with a brush and pen. For another, irrespective of subject matter, it's powerfully rendered.

Spot blacks and inks here are deftly applied and beautiful. And I really like the way the depth of the spotting on the left leg thrusts the character forward. The effect is almost three-dimensional.

This was drawn for the Artists Of Splash Page Comic Artbook, a portfolio sampler of that site's talent pool. Size is an impressive 11 x 17.

The image remains in pop culture because it was satire and was a warning shot at what could go wrong.

The render and the pose really capture Weller's interpretation of the character. Nice background as well. Really a fantastic piece.
