Issue: 1   Page: 27

Description

It's always unusual to see Curt Swan's pencils on anything other than Superman. The 18 pages he drew here for the New Teen Titans Annual were his second-longest body of consecutive pages after he retired from monthly comics in 1986 until he passed in 1996.

Swan began his career with DC in 1946 after serving in the Army Signal Corps during World War II. With a 50-year career, he ranks in the middle of the pack for active years as a penciller for mainstream comics (depending on your definition of "active" and "mainstream").

Swan is one of the greats to define Superman for several generations.  His work on Titans showed that he still had the chops to pull together tight storytelling and some gorgeous good girls like Starfire.  Vey's inks were crucial during the Grummett Titans years and here he makes the page have a visual connection to the regular series.

Nice cosmic panels and gorgeous Starfire images on this very nice Swan/Vey page. congrats! and thanks for the info on that list, I hope some of the ones still working through 2025 have long careers to come but I'd imagine it would be difficult to top some of those names and their lengthy runs in the industry.

Always nice to see Swan's art from this period. I think Al did a great job inking him.
