DescriptionA purchase from Frank's show at the Philippe Labaune Gallery in NYC.I first saw this gorgeous penciled werewolf on Frank's Instagram back in 2019; it was about 90% finished at that point; I instantly fell in love with it and reached out to Frank's rep to see if it was available. I never heard back and didn't pursue it further. In 2023 he went back to it and rendered it a bit more. Flash forward to his latest show and it wound up being part of the exhibit. I'd forgotten exactly when the show was to open, but thanks to a friend who posted on Facebook that he'd gone to the opening the night before, I went right to the website to see that the piece was thankfully still available. I sent a message about purchase through the website and then decided not to chance it and called the gallery. Good thing I did, as they said someone else had expressed interest but since I was on the phone, she'd hold it for me. I sent payment, waited until the show finished last week and the piece was mailed to me and delivered today! I guess it was meant to be. It was proposed as a mockup cover for Frank's 2020 Flesk Kickstarter Art Of Frank Cho - A Twenty-Year Retrospective' hardcover tome on his Instagram and eventually wound up seeing print (the 2019 slightly unfinished version) in that book. It's just stunning...and large! It's 18.5" x 14.5" (I believe on regular drawing paper) and came framed. Now to find a spot on the wall for it! Framed piece in the comments along with a pic of a regular sized comic next to it for scale. Social/Sharing |

Well chosen! It wasn't ready until Cho said it was and for a piece that took him a while to finish, it blends traits of his work then of the soft pencil fur and the current more defined crosshatch style for musculature. It is a large piece that cannot hide any flaws, so Cho decided to be perfect.

I really think this works better as a pencil piece. Franks ink lines are so clean and you really need this to be a bit more "dirty" to give all the fur its proper tone and texture. Beautiful piece.

Jeez! What a piece, Justin - it feels Wrightson-y in all the (very, VERY) right ways, but unmistakably Franks's own, through and through. Great story, too - it sounds like you went through quite the journey to land this piece (and the piece went through quite the journey to reach you). LOVE it! :) The details are so sensational that I can't pinpoint a single, specific part to focus on: the smooth, wispy hair on the left forearm; the savage, unruly mane; the incredibly well-proportioned musculature; that gaze... Forget the werewolf, FRANK is a monster! Congrats on landing this incredible work, Justin! Gorgeous!
