DescriptionLORD OF THE RINGS - Brothers Hildebrandt - “The Road to Minas Tirith” I’ve been blessed in many ways but I never thought that one day I’d own such an epic piece of fantasy book illustration art for J.R.R. Tolkien’s masterpiece! I’m not sure what the exact number of LOTR paintings were commissioned in the 70’s, my research puts the number slightly over 20. The scene painted of Gandalf and the Hobbit Pippin Took riding towards the white city is such an iconic scene especially in the cinematic adaptation, I’ve probably watched it 100 times. Special shoutout to my buddy Jeff @u for helping me secure the painting & spend my money! There maybe another in the works! This specific painting was featured in a 1976 Tolkien calendar & Magic the Gathering playing card. * The Brothers Hildebrandt, Greg and Tim, are known for their fantasy illustrations, particularly for their work on J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings & Star Wars.?Social/Sharing |

Of all the LOTR pieces I've seen from Hildabrandt, this one might be favorite. The greens on this painting look alive. Congratulations on owing this masterpiece.

It put the brothers on the map for sure! It comes across as epic poetry finally adapted visually! The Hildebrandts' vision was just what was needed to spur on other medial to try their hand at adapting this grand story.

Truly epic! Not only did you get something from a series of paintings that's incredibly difficult to acquire, but arguably one of the best. Huge congrats!
