DescriptionWhen I started collecting OA back in 1998, if somebody had told me that I would one day buy a Frank Robbins page I would have simply laughed. As a kid I did not like his drawing at all. To me, he could not compare to the clean lines, anatomy and storytelling of say a Sal Buscema. Fast forward 27 years and I have come to appreciate his art much more. Having seen some of his work on for example Johnny Hazard it is pretty clear he could draw damn well. I think I can see what he was trying to accomplish in the late '70s, applying '40s aesthetics to '70s storytelling, exaggerating anatomy, facial expressions and layouts. Glad to have a good example in my collection! Many thanks to stellar CAF Live seller Josh G. Super smooth deal ! Social/Sharing |

A great Robbins page! The opening shot has a quite extraordinary angle, and there is so much action here. Having the Liberty Legion characters on it is a plus for me. Great page!

Everyone had that feeling because we got used to the pretty linework that emerged out of the 70's through the 90's. We kind of lost sight of how comics were in the WWII era because they didn't do reprints unless you look through the 100 Page Giants and Marvel Masterpieces. I guess we had to adjust our lens to see the art if it was done in the 40's.

I think no kid could be educated in arts enough to appreciate his style and yet, every adult should? ;)

Nice CAL pickup. It is an awesome Robbins/What If page, and very well said/described!
