Description

Milton Caniff 's art seemed rather harsh to me as a kid, but upon growing up-- the work gleamed with craftsmanship, knowledge, with a brilliant sense of bold graphic design & technique. This 12x18 "Steve Canyon" art is from a 16-page promotional comicbook geared towards re-enlistment into the military. The drawing was by Caniff & his assistants--most likely with Caniff doing the faces, with Ray Bailey drawing the figures & backgrounds........................................ ( people always ask me what I collect.....well Caniff art is high on the list. Beautiful in his use of B&W inks....he used the teachings of Noel Sickles--( the artist on Scorchy Smith), and then made them his own........( BTW--Noel Sickles also did the Logos for both his strips.....Terry & the Pirates & Steve Canyon.)....thanks to Ben Samuels for letting this one go, too.)
