Description

Besides being pretty cool for the level of detail achieved by the sheer welter of scratchboard marks on this fanzine page by artist John Adkins Richardson, I guess this would qualify as a nostalgia purchase if anything would. When I was thirteen a relative noticed that I was making my own comics, and gave me Richardson's (then new) "The Complete Book Of Cartooning" for Christmas. The book was my introduction to Richard Corben, Stan Drake, and a number of other cartoonists. Richardson also included many examples of his own artwork, including this scratchboard pin-up of his sword and sorcery hero Maxor of Cirod, which was an inside back cover for the fanzine Fantastic Exploits #21 from 1971. It was a real time trip to see this pin-up in an auction recently!
