Description

If you're a fan of the movie ALIENS, then you probably know this image. From the first one-sheet which was recalled and replaced by the simple poster with just the "Aliens" title. Since then, though, this image has been used for the international release, video cover art, soundtrack cover art...everywhere. Created by art director/brand designer/"image maker" extraordinaire, Mike Salisbury (check out his website for an overview of an incredible career), and artist Terry Lamb, this final product is a photomontage that was completely worked over with an airbrush. There's also fine brushwork present, most notably in the hair. Check out the space above Sigourney Weaver's head...that's the illuminated "i" in "Aliens" (the rest of the title logo and credits were created on a separate overlay by the printer). That's how they did it in the pre-digital age. Not comic art, but one of my favorite movies, and now one of my favorite pieces. From 1986...a big year! Thanks to Mike Salisbury and Dan Nadel for a great transaction!
