Description

The USS Aspro was a Balao class diesel-electric submarine named for a poisonous fish found in Asia and Oceania having a thin, elongated body and black stripes. Legend says the aspro comes to the surface only in bad weather,when other fishes take refuge near the bottom. This trait gave rise to its nickname "Sorcerer" which in this case means a dealer of death. Here we see torpedoes being dealt to the Japanese enemy represented by a beetle. The Aspro won seven battle stars for her World War II service while offically sinking five ships with a tonnage of 21,854. The Disney Studio designed insigne was finished in the Autumn of 1945.
