Description

Matt Dembicki is a local small press comics artist here in Northern Virginia, and I've actually seen him at Big Planet Comics in Vienna, VA on Free Comic Book Day a number of years ago before I really knew who he was. He has contributed to Postcards and the now-defunct BASH! Magazine. He was at Small Press Expo in 2009, and I stopped to talk to him about his Xoc ("Shock") comic, and he explained that "Xoc" is the first phonetically close description found of a shark (shock/shark). Fascinating stuff. While he grew up on Marvel stuff, he opted to draw a cartoon character, something he wouldn't normally try, in my Least Expected book.
