DescriptionBirthday art – Part 3.This is the third piece from my package of art by Wade. As you can see, it’s simply a stunning collage with Spidey, Doc Ock, and a very menacing (not to mention mind blowing) Green Goblin! I believe the original idea was to do a graphite & ink piece with Spidey, Ock, and Venom. Naturally, being an old school Spidey guy (and not being a very big Venom fan), I asked Wade to switch out that character for Gobby. I’m sure he would’ve preferred to do Venom, but after seeing how this Goblin turned out, I know I made the right call. Anyway, when he first showed this to me, it was at a very early prelim stage and the only full image on the piece was a fantastic tonal Spidey, with the other two characters very loosely outlined. But based on what I saw, I could only imagine how beautiful the finished piece would be. The good news/bad news here is that Wade decided to give the piece an added dimension by doing Spidey in color, which naturally meant that my gorgeous tonal figure would be painted over. Luckily, I saved the prelim shots he sent me and now I can enjoy both versions! Stylistically, it’s pretty hard to peg Wade’s look. If I had to take a stab at it, I’d say that the work was a result of his Fine Art background and sensibilities, combined with his inner comic geek’s passion. As such, the work would probably suffer from the scheduling demands of comic deadlines. These types of pieces, however, are where he really flourishes. Totally free to indulge his creative urges without time constraints and/or editorial interference. And as you can see, the results are always phenomenal. Okay, about the piece. It’s 11x14, done in graphite, ink, color pencil, and I believe some detailing and highlights with paint. While I love Spidey, that Goblin close up just knocks me out every time I look at it. It’s so awesome that I almost wish it wasn’t a split image so I could see the left side of his face! LOL! Also love Ock’s tentacles swirling around all over the place. Glad he put the pumpkin grenades in too, but I just wish there were more of them! LOL! Anyway, you can contact Wade (or just check out more of his stuff) through his CAF gallery or at his Deviantart.com page. He usually has a few pieces for sale and I believe he’s available for commissions. If nothing else, he’s a cool guy to chat with. Social/Sharing |
