DescriptionBC and GA in the throes of passion aboard the JLA satellite. Looks like Wonder Woman and Superman had the same idea. It's the 22,300 miles high club. When I found out Mike was taking commissions, I jumped at the chance. I'd been hoping for a while. Mike was (and is) one of my favorite comic artists. My Nasser Deadman convention sketch is my very first piece of original art. Even though it seemed like Mike was just doing pencils, I had a special request for Mike. He had to ink it. I had comments about BC. And we had a little back and forth about GA's gauntlets. Those cutouts on the back of the arm, they look so cool. Otherwise, it was all Mike. The end result resembles a combination of Mike's styles over the years. The obvious NA influence in Green Arrow. The finer lines (e.g. the Canary's hair and Earth in the background) remind me a little bit of Mike and Terry Austin's more graphical moments in the BC/GA run in World's Finest and the J'onn J'onzz/Hawkman/Hawkwoman run in Adventure Comics. The stark black and white contrast reminds me of Mike's chiaroscuro style in his 1994 Huntress mini-series (see a page) and even earlier work. All tied together by Mike's particular inking style which generally leans towards chiaroscuro. I like to have the JLA transporter tube in my commissions. In Mike's case (and GA's mood), it's a kind of phallus which is reminiscent of a certain page of mine, Challengers of the Unknown 81 p 4, penciled by Mike and inked by Bob Wiacek. The top panel features multiple phalluses and breasts. See the addional image, not safe for work !!! Of course, there's more of Mike's art in my main Nasser / Netzer CAF gallery. Black Canary was created by Robert Kanigher and Carmine Infantino. Green Arrow was created by Mort Weisinger and George Papp. Superman was created Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. Wonder Woman was created William Moulton Marsten . Social/Sharing |
