My very, very first commission. In early 2008, after winning the two Zatanna sketch cards I approached Scott about a Zatanna commission. He was really known for his pin-ups but he respected that I wanted something different. So after a few e-mails we agreed to a lounging Zatanna, with burning candles and a book that held all her family secrets.

The five little 'men' were his idea.. it was kind of his trademark at the time and I didn't mind it. It actually adds a bit more of the magic side to this piece. As for the book, my idea. I also wanted something personal so I asked him to add a rose to the back cover and a lock so that it looked like it was more than a mere book. I really liked how he created the rose. It looks more like an engraving, well, kind of. You have to use your imagination a wee bit. :)

The details are really amazing in this little commission. Zatanna has been my favourite for years.. and she still is. This piece is very special as not only my FIRST commission but because it shows a different side of her. It's not a pin-up, it's not all about the fishnets and magic tricks (although there is certainly nothing wrong those images ;) ).. I just really feel this is Zatanna in her natural element and for me, it's perfect.

The few mistakes that I see now are very forgivable. Especially considering that this piece was a very huge stepping stone for me. I never thought that my art collecting would go any further than this commission but maybe I should have checked that Book of Secrets of hers. ;)

*sorry 4 the bad scan- light pencils are hard to work with but I'll try to fix it if I can*
