Description(March/April 1968 Spectre 3) DC assigned Neal Adams (who had only been working in comics about a year) to the new Spectre series. Prior to this series, the Spectre had "recently" appeared in a Brave & Bold story (issue 75) and the JLA/JSA crossover appearances (issues 46 & 47). Neal brought his photorealism quality to The Spectre issues 2-thru-5 at a time when the DC was cultivating fan-interest for the character. As a kid, I wasn't buying many comics at the time this issue came out but I had a cousin who collected EVERYTHING. When I came upon this specific issue in his stash, I read it over-and-over-and-over-and-over. I could not have told you why it was so captivating to me, but looking back I now understand that the art of Neal Adams and the crossover appearance of two JSA characters (Spectre & Wildcat) was a match made in my little heaven. I will quickly admit that in today's world, there are probably other artists that match and maybe even surpass the skills of Neal Adams. And this is not meant to disrespect the man because because he totally changed the industry and became one of the first ROCK STARS of comic art. I'm just saying that for me, a page from this issue by this artist is just about as high a pinnacle as I'll ever reach in the hobby. (PLUG: RomitaMan Mike Burkey ROCKS for being SO easy to work with and is an asset to this hobby!) Social/Sharing |

Outstanding Spectre page with many treasured Adams hallmarks. I don't actually think anyone has surpassed Mr. Adams.
