This is the original painting published as the cover to the vintage paperback novel One To Grow On by Nathaniel Benchley in 1959.

Very happy to add a vintage Robert Maguire painting to my collection. The ironic thing is that this piece always gave me the impression that it was unattractive, but once I received it and saw it in person I (quite gladly!) came to the realization that it was the previous owner's bad digital pic that made it look significantly worse than it really is. It actually looks quite nice in person, particularly the human figures and the interior stairs!

Not a Maguire "pin up" but still a great painting. Love how it's framed. Maguire was truly a master of his art.

It's too bad they lightened the mood of the piece for the book cover. The painting is far richer, and quite beautiful. Congrats!

Agreed. They ruined a lovely painting when they published the book.

The trick with Maguires is a lot of the painting's effect is in the techniques he use and msot of them disappear when published small scale (you can't see that he mized the colors on the brush nor how the strokes were palced) Every MAguire even the dull ones I have seen ahve been amazingly good in the actual art. I should have kept them all!- in my 2 years of exile livign i na small room- I had room for 4 pieces on the wall- one of them was a Maguire.
