Description

Hatlo is well known for They'll Do It Every Time, but also did a series of unrelated gag strips for the San Francisco Call-Bulletin in the early 30s, each time varying the format and approach. This one is a classic in the "cartoonists make fun of modern art" genre, but Hatlo also makes great gags here about Herbert Hoover, Babe Ruth, and Old Gold cigarettes' "Keep Kissable" ad campaign. Note the superb inking and lettering. Outstanding stuff!
