DescriptionPitt Con 2012, April. This was supposed to be *the* convention for me to attend. After a number of health issues my doctor wouldn't release me. In steps my bestest friend to the rescue- Carlos Lising. Not only did he pick up the pieces that I had pre-commissioned but he also let me speak to artists such as Budd Root, Stuart Sayger, George Perez.. and the incomparable Mr. Jim Balent.Speaking to Mr. Balent was such a shock. It was a complete fluke because I didn't expect anything from him. I did contact him before the convention but he's so busy and well, I just didn't think it was going to happen. Fast forward a bit, I get a phone call and it's Carlos. He told me that he's at Mr. Balent's table and that he has something for me. Telling Carlos that it wasn't possible, he handed his cell over to Mr. Balent and the kindness coming from him shook me up so badly that I started to cry. Of course I thanked him profusely and probably made a fool of myself while doing so but I didn't care. He did this piece for me at home, not at the convention.. and I didn't even know it!! We actually talked for quite a bit, and he did try to get me to stop crying but I just couldn't. So, the phrase 'there's no crying at conventions' was born. lol On a more personal note- this is for my son. I've been slowly building an art 'legacy' for him, to let him know that I will always be with him. It wouldn't be complete without a Jim Balent piece. Especially his Catwoman. I've rambled on enough... I just want to thank Carlos for giving me the best week-end ever. Even though I couldn't make it to the convention, you made me feel like I was a part of it. :) And Mr. Balent, I can't thank you enough. Every time I see this piece, I'm left speechless... and ever grateful. :) *I put up my favourite image but I also put up an additional one.* Social/Sharing |

Thanks for sharing!!Thank you, Mike. :) I love that, yes, she still has her curves but the gentle side is also very apparent. This does mean a lot to me.. especially knowing that when my son sees this, he'll know that I'll always be watching over him.

I know, Holly, curiosity killed the cat, but I just wonder if you had also talked about butterflies with Mr. Balent... ;-) ... BTW, cute piece!

Great art and a moving story :) Congrats!Hec, to know me is to know that the story behind a piece of art is just as important as the art itself. But I'm sure that I'm not the only one that feels that way. Thanks for your kind words, hon. :)
