Josh Middleton has been among my favorite artists since I first picked up NYX #1 many years ago. I was happy to see his name on the NYC comic con list and even happier to reconnect with him and get on his commission list at the show. I have been waiting to ask for this commission for 5 or 6 years. I think expectations are funny thing and often art I am initially disappointed in initially grows to be among my favorites and others lose their lustre over time. I am not sure where I sit with this piece. Undoubtedly Josh and the Dragonlady and I don't know what I was expecting... but this wasn't quite it. I think I was expecting more of Josh's distinctive line and facial structure but perhaps that is not it either. A wise friend told me one of the reasons he got commissions done was it taught him things about himself and good or bad, he learned a lot about himself by his reaction to a commission and dissecting out the nuances that lead to the reaction were enlightening. I do the same although to a lesser extent and have been able to understand my decision making in art but some pieces still surprise me. I love this piece because it has caused me a lot of self reflection.

Love this one. Joshua channels Caniff while still making the character his own.
