Bruno Premiani (Italian, 1907-84). Classics Illustrated #156, "The Conquest of Mexico". Complete 45-page story. Premiani's major project for the Gilberton Company was the painted cover and complete interior art for "The Conquest of Mexico" (May 1960), based on Bernal Diaz del Castillo's eyewitness account of the fall of the Aztec empire. Immaculate research resulted in impressive authenticity of both conquistador accoutrements and Aztec architecture. Each page has an approximate image area of 12" x 18". Premiani is probably best known for his work on Doom Patrol between 1963 and 1968.
