As a scrappy youth who didn't know better, I was unencumbered by concerns of etiquette and the pressures of approaching artists who were idols to me. I was something of an oddity, knowledgeable of the likes of Neal Adams and Gil Kane at the age of nine and thoroughly eager to get books that were four times as old as I was signed.
