Description

(May 1941) (Lev Gleason Publications) For those who can appreciate comic book history and especially that of "Golden Age" comic book history, many will not discount the immense talent and great contributions that Jack Cole made to the industry. Even though it is surmised that a couple of Plastic Man pages exist from the latter 1940's, it is more likely that these are not by Jack Cole, but by one of his most talented of ghosts, Alex Kotsky. Up until this original "JACK COLE HAND-COLORED" Daredevil Vs. The Claw Title Splash surfaced, it was pretty much common knowledge that no Golden Age "Super-Hero" art existed by the late, great Jack Cole. The existence of this very example of comic art obviously proves this thought wrong. Just prior to Cole's departure from Lev Gleason to Quality Comics, he worked on "Only 4" Daredevil stories before Don Rico would ultimately take over the strip. This "Hand-Colored" Daredevil Vs. The Claw Title Splash is from Cole's final "Daredevil" story from Silver Streak Comics #10. This is Jack Cole's only example of Golden Age "Super-Hero" artwork known to exist, and as an added bonus it is "Hand-Colored" by Jack Cole as well. (Large-Art Sized)

Man... I'm speechless. This is truly phenomenal, yet somehow at home in this killer collection.

My dad, who claimed his mother threw away (among others) Action Comics #1 and Detective Comics #27 and whose favorite character of all time was The Spirit, talked frequently of his love of two comic story-lines: Sub-Mariner vs The Human Torch and Daredevil Vs. The Claw. This page is astonishing historically, artistically and, the way my father talked, mythically.

Breath-taking....that's all I could say. As the owner of all the Mile High Silver Streaks with that classic Daredevil vs the Claw battle, I must admit that you have one of the best pieces of comic art history around. The "only" line art I saw comparable was that Evert page showcasing Submariner from Marvel Comics #1 that sold a few years back. Best of luck with this one. A true gem in all aspects.

So few Cole art pieces survive from back in the Golden Age; bravo for preserving this one ....and color to boot.

Michael, as stated in my official description for this very special and ultra rare piece of comic book artwork, this is Jack Cole's only example of Golden Age "Super-Hero" artwork known to exist, and as an added bonus it is "Hand-Colored" by Jack Cole as well.  So while Cole's original art is quite scarce to begin with; outside of his single panel cartoons published in Hef's "Playboy Magazine," his actual "comic book work" is essentially nonexistant except for "JACK COLE's Hand-Colored" Title Splash of Daredevil Vs. The Claw from Silver Streak Comics #10 (MAY 1941)."

Hard to believe that a decade and a half ago I left the very first comment on this gem.  Still my favorite piece on CAF.  If you ever go crazy and have a desire to sell or trade, Please (pretty please lol) keep me in mind.

A GEM amongst Gems!

I really should have looked at your gallery long, long ago. What a wonderful find. I read somewhere that the owner of Qualilty cut up all of Jack's PM work to keep others from reprinting it. Sad. Glad this example of his skills survived!
